Change Happens!

The New York Times carried a story on July 31, 2008 entitled, “You Know Gas Prices are High When Texans Start Driving Golf Carts.” The article says there are more pick-up trucks in Texas than any other state, but that even Texans are turning to electric “plug-in” vehicles. (see more at electric cars ). Embracing alternatives to fossil fuels is the ‘new reality’ for the world in which we live.

Hostages Freed!

Perhaps you have seen pictures or heard news reports about the Columbian military securing the freedom of Ingrid Betancourt and 14 other hostages on July 2, 2008. Betancourt (shown above reunited with her mother) had been held for six years and expressed thanks to God for her release (see more at Betancourt Hostage Release)

Please Respond

According to “About.Com” the term “R.S.V.P. comes from the French expression ‘répondez s’il vous plaît’, meaning ‘please respond’. If R.S.V.P. is written on an invitation it means the invited guest must tell the host whether or not they plan to attend the party.” When you are invited to a party, would you respond? Apparently an increasing number of us don’t, even when asked to “R.S.V.P.”

Say What?

Some instructions are confusing. Sometimes we don’t do what we’re told even when the instruction is clear and repeated again and again.

Did you see that!

I don’t know very much about radio telescopes, and I understand less than I know! Scientists use them to search for radio waves deep in ‘outer space’ and computers turn the detected radio waves into a video image which can be seen. In other words, radio telescopes are a way to see the invisible!
