Astonished!

Imagine leaving church “astonished!” That may seem like a “tall” order, but if we encounter Jesus it may well be our response.

So busy!

It is so easy to become pressed by activity! Yet, in the quiet moments we wonder, “am I doing things that make a real difference?” I have shared before the story of the bricklayers, asked what they were doing.  One was just “Laying bricks.” Another “Earning a living.” The third had a different view: “I am building a cathedral to honor God!”

Don’t Miss the Beginning!

When you go to the movies, when do you arrive? Are you often waiting for the previous showing to end and the room to be cleaned so you can get you choice of seats, or are you more often looking in the dark for an empty spot after the first scenes have begun? Many times those first scenes are critical to the whole. That is part of the intrigue as to why, when George Lucas released his first Star Wars movie (in 1977), it was actually episode IV! “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away” the epic story was already nearing its culmination! 

The Unexpected Messiah

I remember when a practical joker uncle of mine rigged electricity to a vehicle and was attempting to entice my father into leaning on the fender to look at the engine. My father, a bit wiser than me, kept a respectable distance. Not me...I wanted to see! I received an unexpected shock of my then young (11 year) life. I was not expecting that kind of vehicle!
